Sklarbro Country is in full effect!!!
We keep it in the Sklarbro family this week as our good friend Jason Nash visits the calming shores! Jason tells us about being a full time dad, takes us back to his audition for SNL, and talks about being ahead of the curve with his podcast Guys With Feelings. Plus, friend of the show Tiger Woods stops by to explain how his mom proposed an app opportunity to him, gives us his view on The Masters, and lets us know if his girlfriend Lindsey Vonn can trust him. If you’re in Los Angeles tonight, come see Randy & Jason perform improvised stand-up as part of Set List at UCB-LA! Get your tickets at www.ucbtheatre.com
Parenthood’s Jason Ritter is an actor, comedian, and now an official citizen of Sklarbro Country! After Randy & Jason drop some yoga snaps, Jason Ritter stops by to talk about how his recurring role on Parenthood came about, what it was like growing up with a famous dad, and being a pinch hitter for his Junior varsity baseball team as a kid. He also talks about how his parents helped guide him to pursue an acting career, still feeling nervous on auditions, and gets into a round of Quick Hits. Plus, we bump it up a notch as a special guest makes their way in studio. You’ll have to tune in to find out who it is!
Being a late-night host requires skill set to rival a Navy SEAL’s, but the most important quality for the job is likeability. Audiences have to have genuine affection for a performer to want to spend time with them night in and night out, year after year. That’s why Chevy Chase and Jerry Lewis famously crashed and burned as talk-show hosts: Audiences could see the evil in their souls, and consequently changed the channel. It would be hard to imagine a duo more likeable than The Sklar Brothers, the identical-twin stand-up comedy team whose Sklarbro Country and Sklarbro County podcasts are consistent delights. The Sklars are the comedy equivalent of what in baseball is known as a five-tool player. They’re frighteningly smart and lightning-fast in a way that never calls attention to itself, but betrays an exceedingly broad frame of reference. (Hell, they host a comedy podcast devoted to the seemingly antithetical worlds of indie rock and sports, and they appeal to a wide audience that isn’t necessarily interested in either.) And they possess a remarkable ability to seem genuinely interested and engaged by everything, whether it’s a guest’s project, the speed and efficiency of Stamps.com, or the stylishness of Bonobos pants. If you can seem passionate, genuine, and sincere while reading sponsor copy on a podcast, then acting fascinated by a NASCAR driver or supermodel should be a breeze.
Get excited because A-List actress Elizabeth Banks and Max Handleman come to the calming shores on today’s Sklarbro Country! The guys start by discussing some examples of poor judgment including; Yankees Gm Brian Cashman testing his luck by going skydiving twice in the same day, a pitcher hurting his hand throwing his gum away, and Doug Melvin trying to have it both ways with a scorpion. Then Elizabeth Banks talks about her incredible career. She chats about the Hunger Games, working on Invincible, and how she predicted Greg Oden’s lackluster career. Max talks about Penn versus Michigan sports, his book on fantasy football, and whether fantasy fandom undermines hometown sports fandom. Then its time for quick hits. They cover the finances of former Sonics Center Robert Swift, Lamar Odom sleeping through a custody hearing, and Max and Elizabeth having their anniversary dinner next to Kim and Kanye. Then Bryant Gumbel calls in and talks about his new show, Catfishing Greg Gumbel.
